FLOOD: Heavy Downpour Claims Pastors Life
An early morning heavy rain that lasted for about seven hours on Tuesday, has claimed the life of a pastor in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
An eyewitness told LEADERSHIP that the late cleric was trying to create channel for the heavy erosion to prevent his house from being flooded when he slipped into the water ways and was washed away.
He said that the pastor drowned in the erosion and died before help could come his way.
The deceased, according to residents, usually engaged himself to create water channels whenever there was such heavy rain before the Tuesdays unfortunate incident that claimed his life.
When our correspondent visited the area, sympathisers, mostly women, were seen mourning the deceased.
The rain which started around 3am and lasted till around 10am on Tuesday morning kept many people indoors for several hours.
When contacted on telephone, the state Polices Public Relations Officer,(PPRO),Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the incident.
He said the deceaseds identity could not be immediately ascertained .
The deceaseds corpse has been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) morgue.
